Metro Rail project: prelim work begins on 100ft. Road

Preliminary work on the Metro Rail Project has commenced. The stretch from  Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar, which is a section of the entire rail system, is to be built by Soma Enterprises.
The pile testing work for the project, one of the five spots, is being carried out in front of Ambika Empire Hotel on Vadapalani’s 100 Ft Road. (photo shows the spot)

The testing is already over at two other places in Koyambedu.

The road has been barricaded near the central median to carry out the work.
The two elevated lines for ‘up’ and ‘down’ trains will be laid above this median on an elevated structure at a height of 9 to 10.5 metres above the ground level from VKR Hospital in Koyambedu to an area close to the Lakshman Sruthi store in Ashok Nagar in the first stretch.
Escalators and steps will be provided at the stations at Ashok Nagar, K K Nagar and Vadapalani.
One more test is due to be done at Ashok Nagar, in front of Karaikudi Hotel. As the road width is a bit less in this area than in other places, police permission has been sought.
The exact specification/location of the stations has not been decided.

Metro rail, wherever it had come up, has been highly successful. Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar and neighbourhood residents can expect this to be a “dream coming true”. Area will take a giant leap forward.

Will it have the same speed and efficiency of Delhi Metro Rail?
May be it will be similar to Calcutta Metro which took almost 10 years to complete 3 kilometers.

Optimism is better than pessimism. Compared to Kolkatta metro, Delhi metro that came up later has improved in speed and quality. Another reason for success of Delhi metro is hefty allocation of funds due to commonwealth games in 2010.

Chennaiites can help in acceleration of speed. Avenues are aplenty. Can we look ahead for a constructive approach??
