Local dancers feature at Chidambaram dance fest

There was a fair presence of dancers and gurus at the annual Natyanjali dance festival that was held at the Lord Nataraja Temple in Chidambaram in mid March.
Guru Samyukta Varadarajan who runs her dance academy in K K Nagar presented a 25-minute dance drama excerpt on the Markandeya story.
It had been composed and put together by Gowri Rajagopal and the guru’s young sishyas presented it on stage.
Photos on top on theleft show a scene from the piece and the guru and her musicians on stage.
On another evening, guru Sikkil Vasanthakumari based in Vadapalani presented a small group of her senior sishyas at a late evening slot.
Photos on the left, second set show the dancers and the guru and the musicians on stage.
Also in Chidambaram was guru Sheela Unnikrishnan. This time she presented her senior students in 2 pieces. Sheela is a regular on this circuit.
