History Prof. attends academic conferences
Dr.Prof. V.Balambal, Professor (Retd) of History is back from a tour abroad – she was invited to present papers in international conferences. She lives in Ashok Nagar.
She presented a paper titled “Dignity & Peace of Mind of the Elderly in the UNESCO International Asia-Arab Philosophical Dialogue Conference :Culture of Peace & Dignity held at Thisle beach resort, Port Dickson, Malaysia on 14-17, May, 2010.
The conference was well attended by representatives from 35 countries. Each paper was commented by a scholar from another country. Dr. Balambal’s paper traced the importance given to the elderly in the Ramayana, Mahabharata & Upanishads, joint family system and how there is decline in the status of the elderly in India.
All the delegates were taken to a trip to Malacca where one can see the Dutch and British influence.
Dr.Balambal also participated and presented a paper titled “Issuses on Domestic Violence” in the 10th SouthEast Asia Regional Scientific Meeting of the International Epidemeologiocal Assn held at Colombo , Sri Lanka from 23-26 May, 2010.
More than 500 participants attended the conference and presented research papers. The local city tour on the Buddha Poornima day was quite interesting.
