At Pongal time, Ceebros campus on Arcot Road goes rural . . .

Reported by Chandra Mohan

Pongal or the harvest festival was celebrated with great pomp and grandeur at Ceebros Shyamala Gardens, Saligramam, creating the mood and colours of rural Tamilnadu.

This vibrant apartment complex has an active event management team and it conducted a Rangoli completion for its residents. The women vied with each other displaying their skills drawing a variety of eye-catching and artistic `kolams’ or Rangoli.

On the Pongal day, the residents of Ceebros Shyamala Garden were literally transported to a village when 55 folk artists of Kalaimamani Veerachamy Troupe descended in their apartment complex by 6 pm.

They enthralled the huge turnout of residents with a scintillating and authentic  display of various folk art  forms like karagaatam, oyillaatam, mayilattam, poi kaal kudhirai, kavadiaatam, Silambaatam, kalari, maan kombu etc. accompanied by instruments like nayyandi melam, urumi melam, thavil, nadaswaram, etc.,. The highlight of the show was the thappaatam which had the crowd dancing to its different beats.

These residents are proud that they supported some dying art forms and want residents in neighbourhing apartments to do the same when they get up community events.
