This was a diverse group of adults and children who had gathered to learn more about the trees in the park and find out how they can do more to protect tress, make K.K.Nagar greener and attract more birds other than crows and pigeons.
Prof. Thevanathan, a retired professor of botany from Presidency College Chennai, guided the group pointing out the unique features of each tree in the park.
As the enthusiastic group of young and old moved from tree to tree, curious joggers in the park joined the group.
Free the Tree of SignBoards Campaign is the next event planned for February.
V. Soundararani reports -
At K K Nagar’s Sivan Park there are the big nagalinga, neem, banyan, rain trees, sappota trees, gulmohar, varieties of peepul, accacia, pungai at this sprawling space. There are some ornamental trees like koondal panai (jaggery palm), which is mistaken for pakku maram generally, and creepers, and climbers which beautify the space.
A few college students like Pramod and seniors like Neela, were enthusiastic and showed interest in knowing more about the varieties of trees.
