Housing Board plans mega complex in K. K. Nagar

By V. Soundararani

The area off Anna Main Road, near ESIC hospital in K. K. Nagar will look different in a year if plans by the TN Housing Board to develop its land here takes off now.

The 3.3 acre plot (close to 60 grounds) here which was home to the erstwhile ‘wood working unit’ that belonged to the TNHB is to be developed into an integrated housing complex, which will include a shopping mall with a multiplex.

The new project will be a joint venture with public-private partnership – between TNHB and a private builder. When developed, there will be 5 lakh sq ft built-up space. The project details are being worked out by the TNHB.

This site is sandwiched between the MTC depot in K K Nagar and ESI Hospital complex. Since many vehicles park along side this stretch of the road and encroachments take up the rest of ‘no man’s land’ here, the property cannot be located easily.

The land is presently full of wild bushes. A contractor will be assigned the work of clearing the vegetation soon. A few old buildings which stood inside have been demolished.

<< If you live/ have lived in the oldest TNHB colonies of Ashok Nagar and K K Nagar and wish to share your memories of life in those 70s, please e-mail a note and we will post it on this web site. E-mail to – arcotroadtimes@vsnl.net >>
