Salient features of Valasarawakkam Municipality meeting discussions

Valasarawakkam Municipality is one among the seven in the state that have been given a nod by the Government of TN for the project of upgrading the roads. in the first phase,  The project comes under the urban roads improvement scheme of the state.

All the roads will be concretised, and storm water drains, culverts and foot paths, ducts for cables provided, and will be comparable with the national standards.

The laying of underground lines for sewage have been fully completed in Valasarawakkam. This is the criteria for getting the grants for this project, says E C Sekar, Chairman of the municipality. He admits roads have been badly damaged during the course of laying and that temporary repair work here and there is being undertaken now.

As a step forward, the municipality will take up a detailed project study and prepare a report for the road improvement project with the help of consultants, as decided by the council meeting held on January 30.

 Meanwhile, to repair the rain battered roads on a temporary basis, tenders will be floated to black top Sridevikuppam Main Road, Radhakrishnan Road, Kadumbadiamman Koil Street, Lakshmi Nagar III Street and Kamaraj Salai at a cost of Rs. 40 lakhs, according to the subjects passed by the municipal council.

The funds for this come from the office of District Collecetor, Thiruvallur. To compensate for natural calamities, funds are sanctioned through district Collectors.
 The 1st and 2nd widened street of Kannammal Nagar will be concretised at a cost of Rs. 2.5 lakhs.

The amount over and above Rs. 93000, allotted by Swarna Jayanthi Scheme (meant for municipalty improvement) will be met from the municipality general funds.

 The water supply PVC main pipe at the junction of Majestic Colony and Indian Bank main roads is badly damaged and water supply to the southern parts of Valasarawakkam has been affected.

The repair work will be immediately taken up. A new 150 mm valve will be introduced at Nagi Reddy Street in Ward 7, to maintain the smooth water supply in Northern parts of Arcot Road. Both these works will be executed by Municipality’s  licensed contractor K P Thulasingaraja at a cost of Rs. 72000.

The level of sewage delivery pipe at Thirunagar pumping station will be lowered to get over the bad odour that emanates from here. The same contractor will take up this work at once, at a cost of Rs. 23000.
