Candidates for South Chennai should be known soon

By Our Staff Reporter

The line up of candidates who will contest in South Chennai Lok Sabha constituency for the forthcoming General Elections is still not complete. But things are hotting up.

The BJP’s senior leader L. Ganesan had himself said he would contest here but now there seems to be some rethinking.

The buzz is that Dr. Subramaniam Swamy of the Janata Party may throw his hat in this ring. Will he do it under the AIADMK umbrella or will he remain an independent?

Swamy has a house in San Thome and this is his base in the city.

The DMDK party has announced that Gopinath will contest from South Chennai. The party led by actor Vijaykanth is fighting on its own. Nothing much is known about this candidate and some party cadres in the Adyar area are upset that people who have worked for the party have not been acknowledged and are openly expressing their anger.

The DMK will contest in this constituency but it is still not clear who it will pick. The name should be out by the weekend.

Technocrat and community activist N. S. Venkataraman is already planning his campaign. He is the candidate of a party started by freedom fighters. Venkataraman resides in Besant Nagar and has his office in Perungudi.
