Obituary: N S Prasanna

Reported by Dr.Babu Rajendran, Chairman of The Eye Research Foundation, Vijaya Hospital.

N. S. Prasanna, Ex-General Manager of Chandamama Publications, passed away on 28th April  at his residence in Virugambakkam after a brief illness.

He was a Paul Harris Fellow, honoured by Rotary Club of Madras Southwest.

I have had the privilege of knowing  the octogenarian  since 1981 or so when he was working with the Chandamama Group. I have been impressed by his humility, his devotion to duty, his politeness and most of all by his devotion and dedication to his work.

Having been a teacher earlier in his carrier, he was meticulous in the way he spoke and wrote the Queen’s English at all times. His aptitude and desire to impart knowledge was seen at every juncture when he willingly took youngsters under his tutelage and guided them in their careers. He was so meticulous in his work that I used to often tell his colleagues and my friends that if you gave him a blank white sheet of paper, he would return it with at least three red marks by way of corrections.

His red pen was dreaded by even the most senior of his colleagues. He lived with dignity and pride.

N S Prasanna is survived by his wife, Shamantha and five sons. His family is at Plot 65, Door No 5, Krishna Nagar 6th Street, Virugambakkam. Phone: 2377 0176.

When my namesake and former colleague informed me about the passing away of Mr Prasanna, whom I knew as General Manager of Chandamama Group, i realised I had a lost a well-wisher. i know Mr. Prasanna for long and he had control over distribution and sale of copies, dues to be collected from various distributors and agents and kept a watch on the timely printing of nearly 20 magazines and their despatch!! He worked unobtrusively and I learnt he was strict with the people in charge of these activities. It was a smooth operation on his part. I used to visit him at his residence after his retirement. Let me BOW before the memory of of a good friend. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
