Dr. Abdul Kalam takes part in Vadapalani-based cancer centre’s event

Paterson Cancer Centre was abuzz with a high profile visitor on June 22.
Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, who had inaugurated the centre was the guest at its sixth Free Cancer Awareness Programme for the public. Abdul Kalam has made personal donations too to the institute.
A warm reception was given to him by the centre and Cancer Alleviation Foundation, CALF (a Trust). Sarala Panchapakesan, managing trustee of CALF made the welcome speech.
Hundreds of people underwent the sreening on the five days.
A lot of cancer survivors too who were earleir treated by the centre had turned up to share their success stories. Many patients were full of praise for the centre for the excellent moral support and psychological counselling the centre offers.
This goes a long way in the curing process, said Hemalatha from Porur, who is a healthy woman now.
The President gave a motivating speech on how early detection and educating the vulnerable sections carried out by the centre helps in successful cure. The confidence instilled in the patients’ mind plays a big role too, he said. He also donated a sum of Rs.70,000 to the CALF on the day.
