V’wakkam civic body to build overheads tanks to enhance water supply

Valasarawakkam municipality will build two overhead water tanks for drinking water supply, of one lakh litres capacity each. These tanks are to enhance the water supply to the farther areas of Valasarawakkam, said municipality sources.

Lack of proper water supply in tail end areas was a persistent problem for some time now, and this proposal was approved by the local council at a recent meeting.

An underground tank with a capacity of 5 lakh litres will also be built in Majestic Colony for storage purpose.

The total cost estimate for these projects is Rs.30 lakhs. The expenditure will be met from the municipality funds, says E C Sekar, chairman.

One OH tank will be built on the municipalty premises and another in Choudhary Nagar. Tail end areas of wards 16, 17, 18 and 1 will benefit from the OHT at the municipality premises.

And  Om Shakthi Nagar, Janaki Nagar, Veerappa Nagar, BLN Prasad Nagr, Kaikanpuppam, Bharathi Colony, Gandhi Nagar, Suresh Nagar on the Choudhary Nagar side of Arcot Road will benefit out of the tank at Choudhary Nagar.

Tenders are to be called for awarding the contract to build these tanks, said the municipality.
