Painting on ostrich egg shells!

egg artSri Annai Kamakshi Kalaikudam’s workshop this time was about painting on a mega sized egg shell, that of an ostrich. The trainees – lots of kids – proudly took home the painted piece of art.

“Getting ostrich eggs some years ago was rare, but now we procure it from Andhra. The content is drained out and the shells are sold to us,” explains Venkatachalapathy, the founder.

Ostrich egg shell art has been sold in the market even for Rs.25,000 in the past, he adds.

The kids and adults were thrilled and we hope to hold more workshop in the future, he adds.

The shell needs to be carefully smoothened with emery paper before acrylic or oil paint is used to paint designs on it. M Seal embossing is also done.
