Gasifier to come up at Brindavan Nagar crematorium in Valasai area

The councillors of Valasarawakkam Municipality met in late September to discuss the projects and pass the subjects under consideration for this area.

Property Tax

The property tax collections were low the past two months and far from anticipation, the council felt.

The council decided upon the rate of tax to be levied on vacant sites as per the Government orders for Municipalities.

The value of this tax will vary from 10 paise to 40 paise per sq ft, according to the location and amenities enjoyed by the site. This will enhance the revenues of the municipality to meet the increased salaries of employees, and to repay the debts incurred by the municipality towards its developmental projects.

Finance Commission grant

Sairam Avenue will get concrete roads, storm water drains and a culvert will be provided on Appar Street of Kamakoti Nagar at a cost of Rs.1.25 and 3.15 lakhs respectively with the grant from 12th Finance Commission.

A pulveriser to grind tree branches collected at the municipality will be bought at a cost of a lakh of rupees.

Gasifier Project

Tender has been awarded and bhoomi pooja performed to commence the work to instal a gasifier at the Brindavan Nagar crematorium. The cost estimate is Rs 60 lakhs and the work will be executed in six months time by General Enviro Tech Pvt Ltd of Coimbatore.

Civic Works

Civic works to the value of Rs. 32. 85 lakhs have been planned in the municipality area.

High mast lamp at Ramakrishna Nagar Vilayattu Thidal, culverts in Bharathi Dasan Salai, Anbu Nagar, Ramakrishna Nagar extension, SBS Colony and Sastha Nagar. open auditorium and public convenience facilities at Periyar Vilayattu Thidal in Fathima Nagar, civil work for gasifier crematorium, repair / laying of water pipe lines, repair / laying of concrete roads, and to cover the storm water drains with Reinforced Cement Concrete slabs wherever applicable.
