Vadapalani Temple prepares for ISO certification

Palaniandavar Temple in Vadapalani is all set to go global, with a place in the world map.

This famous Lord Murugan temple situated in the tinsel town of Vadapalani is hugely patronised by cine celebrities, and big corporates. Yet again, it is in the news, for being one among the three Hindu temples in Chennai for which HR & CE have applied for ISO Certification.

Rarely, does a worship place go for this status, it is said. Normally, profit oriented consumer organisations and even charitable organisations apply for this international standard certification. To bring international repute to the temple and with ideas of tourism in mind, this is being pursued, according to the HR & CE’s Dy Commissioner at the temple.

Says DC Vasunathan, “Rigourous norms have to be followed by the temple staff, which would take about six months to fall in line, so as to achieve this credit”. Even a glass of water can be readily drunk without hesitation in ISO institutions; And is is a matter to feel proud about for the local people, he explains.

The temple has to do impeccable documentation of the activities inside, relating to staff registers, time registers for opening and closing of the shrines, has to have a monitoring system and record every activity and more, with total accountabiity to the audit group. HR & CE is arranging for all these. The enabling agency is in the process of guiding the temple staff, earmarking and streamlining the staff for various activities held inside. They are also helping us in the maintenance of the needed registers for the past one month, says the Dy Commissioner,

The audit will be carried out by ISO as soon as these procedures are complete. And after that there will be yearly audits by the organisation to maintain the certification.
