Local girl gets admission to top US University

Dharini Chandrasekaran, daughter of N. Chandrasekaran, residing in Bhaskar Colony, Saligramam is now preparing to leave for the USA to study at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of the top five schools for engineering sciences in the world.

She has chosen to pursue M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering specialising in Controls and Systems.

She studied in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, K.K. Nagar till her twelfth standard and was the school topper in Computer Science and Mathematics.

She scored a Centum in Mathematics in Plus Two (CBSE)

She then went on to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Nagpur where she secured admission through AIEEE. There, she was consistently in the top five of the class getting a CPI (cumulative Performance Index) of 9.19.

She also then went on to become the Ladies Representative of the College and the Senior Prefect for the Girls’ Hostel. In her third year, she applied for higher studies in the USA and she secured admission into four prestigious universities like University of Pennsylvania, University of Florida.

Out of the four, she has chosen to attend CMU and is leaving for college this fall on 4th August, 2010.

Her parents are N. Chandrasekaran, Assistant Manager, The New India Assurance Co. Ltd., and a social activist in Saligramam area and her mother works for BSNL Chennai Telephones.

Her brother C. Aravind preparing for C.A. examinations.
