Metro Rail; work apace on 100 Ft. Road

Reported by V. Soundararani

Work on Metro Rail segment on the 100 Feet Road is going at a fast pace even as the crazy traffic on this busy road weaves it way to its destination.

Soma Enterprises, the contractor who is working on one end of this project is said to be ahead of its schedule in executing the stretch of Metro Rail project, from Vadapalani – 100 Feet – Arcot Road junction to Koyambedu.

Since lately, girder segments, 12 in between each pillar are being erected.

These are joined by means of launching girder equipments. Last fortnight, this work was going on near the Lakshman Sruthi music store junction – here the criss crossing traffic was restrained because of this sensitive work.

The traffic flow has been modified accordingly.

The girder-laying work will continue towards the Ashok Pillar point.

The stretch close to Arcot Road, on the Ashok Pillar side has been earmarked for the elevated Vadapalani Metro Rail station – this location has been confirmed.

This station project is to be executed by Chennai based Consolidated Construction Consortium (CCC).

The level of the elevated Metro Rail corridor across the Arcot Road will be at the highest point here, to accommodate the flyover that has been planned here across the 100 Feet Road. The flyover will run below the rail level, it is said.

The flyover has been a longstanding demand of people of this area to ease traffic flow.
