TN Elections: Parthasarathi of DMDK wins Virugambakkam seat

P. Parthasarathi of the DMDK, a party led by film star Vijaykanth rode the pro-AIADMK alliance wave in Tamil Nadu to win the Assembly seat from Virugambakkam constituency. The results were out on May 13, Friday.

He defeated the high profile man from the DMK, Dhanasekaran.

The DMK man was  a councillor who represented K K Nagar and was also chairman of the zonal council. He has been in the thick of local politics for many years. He is said to be close to DMK leader M K Stalin and has been a pushy politician in this area.

Not much is known about Parthasarathi. But his party, the DMDK has not only been active in this region ( Vijaykanth has lived in this area and has his office in Koyambedu) but the activities of the party has helped raise the profile.

Most residents here have seen their previous MLAs as a big let down since many core issues have never been tackled properly.

The Virugambakkam Canal which overflows during heavy rains and at monsoon time, floods the area and brings misery to residents has time and again been a big issue and though attempts are made to address it, people see them as half hearted attempts and no MLA in sight to ensure a solution is executed to its end.

Other civic issues like potholed roads and bad maintenance of the area irk people.

The area was at the tail end of the Villiwakkam constituency in the past. Now it has a new MLA who has the tasks cut out clearly.
