School introduces students to food of different countries!

Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Virugambakkam has taken up various activities as a part of the International Standards Accreditation project under various topics to create awareness and instill respect for the culture, tradition and values of various other countries around the world.

“Food preferences across the globe” was the topic dealt with students of class III for one recent project.  A Power Point presentation depicting the food varieties of USA, Italy, Singapore, Mexico and China was shown to the children and an interaction initiated on the varieties.

A mini kitchenette was set up in the school auditorium where.Selvakumar, food creation leader from The Accord Metropolitan hotel gave a live demo on preparing dishes like Vegetable dumplings (China), Cream of mushroom (USA) Pasta with tomato basil (Italy), Spinach quesadillas (Mexico) and honey chilli cauliflower(Singapore).

Everyone had the opportunity to enjoy, witness and taste the food items.

To encourage students and parents, there was also a cookery contest on “Healthy Breakfast” in which parents and their children participated.  Manikandan from SRM Institute of Hotel Management tasted the dishes and judged the winners.
