Dance guru Binesh Madhavan’s new production

Akshaya Arts, which is based in Chinmaya Nagar and is one of the city’s well known dance schools, will showcase the premiere of its latest dance production ‘Nala Charitham’.

This is a dance drama based on one of the best literary works of the Sangam literature.

The premiere is on the Monday 17th October, at Vani Mahal Main Hall, G N Chetty Raod, T Nagar.

The 90 minute dance drama will have 9 scenes portraying King Nala’s life, along  with a swan dance, a snake dance, folk dances and other art forms.

The event  is being organised by Akshya Arts.

Its director Binesh Madhavan says he is doing this to increase awareness about the treasures of Tamil literature through  the Indian classical dance.

40 of this guru’s disciples from Arcot Road areas  will feature in this production.

Says Binesh, “Cultural activities are rather dry and few in these areas but we have done what we can to train our students and hope to present a great event on the stage.”

Binesh Mahadevan has been a performing guru in the field of classical arts for more than two decades. He is a senior disciple of Ranganayaki Jayaraman.

He is well trained in Kathakali, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi and comtemporary dance.

His association with Mathru Mandir as  a Creative Movement Therapist extends for more than 7 years and he has arranged for the successful arangetram of one of the special children at this NGO.

His dance school has spread to many places in Chennai and more than 100 students are being trained under his guidance.
