Ladies group hosts Isai Vizha

A fest hosted by the Sree Lakshmi Ladies Association of this area.

The group has a long and good record of social service to the less privileged.

Recently, its spunky treasurer Anandhi Sundaram suggested it host a music and discourse fest because the area did not host such an event save for the off concerts held in temples.

“It was my idea but I passed it around the team and they all agreed,”said Anandhi.

Led by Shanta Raman, their chief and Rajalakshmi and Revathy, they quickly drew up the details.

That is how the first Isai Vizha got form and was launched on Wednesday evening, the last day of February.

Gracing it was the famed vocalist Aruna Sayeeram who came all the way from Alwarpet to acknowledge the efforts made by a all-woman group.

The hall was packed – women, kids and retirees who make up a good part of this nagar.

Later, they enjoyed a concert by the talented Prasanna Venkataraman.

Though the acoustics were not good and the hall was stuffy in the early summer heat, many rasikas enjoyed the fare.

Outside the hall, a few stalls introduced their products to guests. Balaji of the famed diamond store chain based in Tiruchi which has its store on Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore was there, marketing their diamonds the brand is known for.

A West Mambalam entrepreneur sold eco foodstuff.

Banners of banks and local stores on the fringe of the hall testified to the sponsorship support the ladies and their band had garnered.

The fest ran up to March 2 with Hindustani bhajans in the morn followed by Upanyasam at noon and Dr. R Ganesh ending the fest with his concert.

The Association is at 33, Gandhi Road, Alwarthiru Nagar, Valasarawakkam.
