Saligramam’s Deepak makes a mark in chess

Lots of kiddies are raring to get to the top of the competitive chess playing world after ‘Vishwanathan Anand made it big.

You see dozens of them cramming the halls where chess tourneys are played, be it in Mylapore or T. Nagar, in Hyderabad or in Delhi.

They are fiercely competitive and even a 10th place means a lot.

K. Deepak, a PSBB student in Class 4 has been doing the rounds of the tourneys following coachings at various centres.

The son of P. Kannan, GM at the Eye Research Foundation, Vijaya Hospitals, Vadapalani, Deepak has a few decent wins to show this past year.

He won the 2nd prize at the KCF Children Rapid chess tournament, the 2nd prize at the Solar chess tournament and the 3rd prizeĀ  atĀ  Children’s Club chess tournament.

The boy has shown promise. Though like some kids, he says he’d like to also be a cricketer and shows off his certificates in sloka chanting contests.

Deepak and his family live at Sarayu Flats on Sri Ramar Street in Saligramam. Call his dad on 94444 51357.
