Forum Vijaya Mall has its informal opening; shoppers take in all that is open now

mall 1It was an informal opening alright but shoppers are already making the best of their May Day holiday to walk into the newest mall in the city which opened in Vadapalani today.

Forum Vijaya Mall opened its tall, glass gates to hardcore shoppers and even saw some brisk sales at some outlets and lots of window shopping and roaming of all the three levels.

Most shops on the ground and the first level have opened. All the big brands – from Lee and Metro, Allen Solly and Univercell, Max to Hidesign – are there and open for business.

Shoppers sallied in and out, salesmen got their act in and the lights were bright and sharp and the air-conditioning was just right, more so on a hot day.

mall 2Work is still going on at many stores. They may need at least 3 to 4 weeks to open.

But the buzz was at Via South, the large food court where shoppers sampled some of the food at some of the food counters here. The ice creams and milk shakes sold fast. You need to purchase food tokens at a outside counter.

Elsewhere, ID, the brand food joint that Satyam Cinemas runs has also opened a standalone restaurant elsewhere and that was packed too.

The movie screens are yet to open. Seven IMAX ones we are told; the area is cut off. Once they open, the screens may well draw the steady crowds in.

The mall is spacious, well lit and bright. But it will take time to get a character of its own.

The mall will spread further north. Work is still going on there.
