Metro train runs on its first big trial

The Metro Rail line between Koyambedu and Ashok Nagar came alive on Friday when the first full trial run of the train was held.

The full train ran on the line unto to the Ashok Nagar station on the over land structure, taking many people on the road by surprise and letting them know that the Metro may well be operational by the end of the year.

There is a double line on the section but only one has been full electrified. While the trains yard is at Koyambedu, the Vadapalani station is a major station when the Metro comes alive, feeding the needs of commuters who live in the Arcot Road area and need to travel to north Madras or towards the airport.

The other major project announced by the state, the Mono Rail is planned to link the Poonamallee area with Vadapalani and feed the Metro too.

Also, the other Vadapalani transport project is for a flyover at the 100Ft Road junction is in the planning stage.
