Mar Thoma School wants to connect with its alumni

Mar Thoma Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Sri Iyyappa Nagar is making serious attempts to expand its alumni community so that the school and the alumni can work together.

This school, which is into its 40th year and serves children from all walks of life was started in Sayee Nagar and moved to its present campus later.

School principal Susan Jose who has headed this school since its inception says that a meeting of alumni was held in late April and plans are on to reach out to many others to strengthen the association.

She said that in the past alumni have helped by placing adverts in school souvenirs and by sponsoring the fees of the poor students at the school.

Now, the key members of the alumni and the school want to give it a big push so that a few more social projects can be thought of and funded.

To reach out, a Facebook page has also been opened for the alumni.

In the Std.X exams, one student failed while in Std.XII exams, three students failed. Says Susan, “WE educate children from poor and middle class families and some of them may not be very bright but we do our best for them.”
