Alwarthiru Nagar women’s group celebrates 43rd anniversary

ART LAKS MNLakshmi Mahalir Manram, a women’s community group based in Alwarthirunagar is one body which has kept going no matter what their fortunes have been. Most members have grown old gracefully from the time they launched this group but they have not let their tired legs stop them from doing what they set out to do – render social service to less priveleged of the community and promote arts and skills among kids and women and members of this group.

Their big venture though has been the recently- promoted annual music and dance fest held at the top of each year. Though it costs a lot, the women have walked up and down to raise monies from sponsors and present a well appreciated arts fest – last held at the auditorium of Le Chatelaine School, the gracious venue host.

Last week, the Manram celebrated its 43rd anniversary with a free medical checkup camp and a formal event on Sept.20, Saturday. Dr Aruna who practices in this area and her team conducted the medical camp which was open to all. Veteran teachers were also honoured.

Later in the evening, the Manram hosted a series of cultural and formal events.

Both events were held at the Chennai Corporation park’s roofed hall on Gandhi Road ( pop. Megamart store on Arcot Road) and are open to all.

The Manram’s leaders want more women, especially the young and sprightly to join hands to diversify activities in this neighborhood.
