About Us

ARCOT ROAD TIMES started as a free, English, weekly local area newspaper in 1999 for the neighbourhoods of Ashok Nagar, K. K. Nagar, Vadapalani, Virugambakkam and Valasarawakkam.

In May 2008, the weekly newspaper was ‘frozen’ and we launched the local area web site. Its URL is – www.arcotroadtimes.com

This web site is possibly one of the best local area site of Chennai city.
It provides daily coverage of this neighbourhood, has regular  updates and interactivity and provides a host of useful info.If you live in this area and are Net connected, then this is the web site to book mark and visit now and then!

From mid-April 2011 we restarted publication of ARCOT ROAD TIMES newspaper – it comes out on every other Sunday ( once every 2 weeks) and now circulates 12,000 copies in select colonies of the region, extending into pockets up to Porur.

The editor and publisher of these ventures is Vincent D’ Souza.

He also manages and runs two other community newspapers in Chennai – Adyar Times and Mylapore Times, and a web site for classical music and dance, www.kutcheribuzz.com.

Arcot Road Times is very junior compared to other two from Vincent D`Souza but got the elevation to online status. We are very happy about.
There are lot of good articles in Mylapore times and Adyar times and we would definitely like to read these two weeklys also ONLINE. Will it materialise soon?

The Arcot Road Times web site is a new and small venture. It needs time to grow. It will in the months to come.
As a local web site, we will be useful to all those who live in this area and those who are Net-connected.
    That is our constituency.

And in three months, we are truly the best neighbourhood and community web site.
As of today, we get an average of 15 visitors who spend 3/4 mins on the site.

The site is update every other day and has a variety of information and more will follow.

In course of time, as we spread the word to Net-users, the user community will grow.
    And we should get better!

    Dear Sir,

It is indeed pleasure in reading your newspaper that to online, updating ourself with our neighbourhood news.

I would like to give a small suggestion. Instead of opening all the categories by the readers, it would be better if the updated categories is highlighted. It would be easier for the reader’s just to open the respective category.

Hope you will consider the same.

    With best regards,

  7. admin on September 30th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

    Thanks for your comment Mahadevi.

But your suggestion cant be implemented.

The best way to find out the updated stories and info is to subscribe to the RSS (Entries) service that you see on the top right corner of the Home Page of our web site.
Once you do this, all stories find an alert in your mailbox!

Please remember that we post an average of one story a day!

You too are welcome to contribute. . .

Thiruvalluvar Salai 2nd Street, Nesappakkam, West KK Nagar, Chennai – 78 was in very bad shape from 26th November 2008 to 30th November 2008. The flooded street faced several issues. Water did not recede easily. It was shocking to see someone kept the manhole open for the water in the street to recede VIA underground drainage still the underground drainage was overflowing. Flats like Yokesh Mahal was submerged with water from Nov 27th to Nov 30th, it is very sad to see no authorities turning up nor local newspapers such as Pillar Talk, Arcot Road times giving importance to our street and its citizens. All residents of our flat were deprived of basis amenitites such as food, water and unable to use toilets in these three days, even first floor people. But we had to manage the situation ourselves.

Hope situation improves in future and this area is given importance by media.

Even we dont get the free circulation of this newspaper in our street or flat. Kindly arrange for our residents to get benefited with your service.

Now that we read the online edition, it is time the Editor considers publishing the articles in English and Tamil appering in Mylapore and Adyar times.
Good articles in your other two publications should be available to others also. Why this restriction?

  24. admin on February 17th, 2010 at 7:02 pm

Thanks for the suggestion. Adyar Times and Mylapore Times are going online soon so you have a bounty there!

I’ m a resident of valasaravakkam. i’ ve come across arcotroadtimes paper last month only when i picked up the paper from k.k. medicals at valasaravakkam. now i’ m reading the paper online. hats off to you. there is no much news about valasai. Garbage bins are over flowing. lots of garbage is thrown on the vacant plots. there is no sign off removing the same by the concerned authorities. Still its a wonder that people are patronising the mobile food carts ( kaiendhibhavans) serving samoosas, vadas, etc. mostly sitiuated near the stinking garbage bins.
